So I have Fat Guy Running which is a personal journey that is incorporated into my Extreme Mississippi Sports and Games Ezine.  On this blog I will review and talk about nothing but games.  The games I'm playing, the games I am waiting to come out, and all games both past and present that I have enjoyed.

Today I am going to preview a classic game.  One that I played years ago and have just now been able to play again.  XCom UFO Defense!  One of the greatest squad based games ever.  It has been voted number 1 many times.  I played this game and as a matter of fact I still have this game for the PS1.  I loved it then and am seriously loving it now.  There is also a lot of fan fiction out there and some of those guys can write the stories about the game pretty well.  I have really enjoyed them too while playing Xcom.

Now, not sure if you know but there is a NEW Xcom coming out later this year based off the original.  From what I have seen it is going to be epic.  The screens from it were very impressive and I can't wait to see it in action for real.  But don't want to stray from this blog too much.  The original Xcom came out in 1994 published by Microprose and it was phenomenal.  The game is set up as a time based, squad based, strategy and tactical game.  You proceed through the game by researching, building, and using new technologies you get from the aliens and you try and keep the world protected while defeating them.  The culmination is a trip to Mars and a shot at killing the "brain" to ultimately defeat the aliens.

I started out with 8 guys and some of Earths finest weapons and ships and quickly got my butt kicked, lol.  But as I went further into the game I was able to get the armor and weapons to make my people live longer and kill easier.  I personally like to name my little soldiers after my friends and characters in my books.  As you progress your soldiers (that survive) also "level up".  Their skills improve, their health and bravery improve and soon they become really good troopers.

So this is my first game review and its an old favorite of mine.  I will get better at this the more I do.  So I will leave you with a few screenshots of this awesome trip down "awesome game lane".

These screenshots are from a game, not mine though.  My graphics card is on the fritz right now so I am having to improvise.  Enjoy none the less.
